Solanum Xanthocarpum

 



  • Solanum Xanthocarpum is also called as "Yellow-berried Nightshade", Thai green eggplant.
  • It belongs to the family of Solanaceae, its Common name is Kantakari.
  • Kantakari is found well versed in India, often on roadside in open space.
  • This plant is cultivated in Himalayas, Malasia and Austrlia region.

  • The Ayurvedic name of Solanum is "Kantakari", the branches of kantakari are spreading on ground.
  • This plant has numerous branches with dense stellate tomentum and prickles.
  • The kantakari plant is widely distributed in Dry situation by roadsides and Wastelands.

  • It is a Hardy plant, this crop can also grown under saline lands.
  • Some times due to frost as it causes Injury to Vegetative parts.
  • This crop is raised by seeds, the seeds are yellowish brown in colour and small in size.
  • This plant is thorny Nightshade herb, Copious armed with Sturdy, Needlelike and Broad-Based Prickles.
  • The Leaves are unequal paired and prickly along veins.
  • Solanum are "Inflorescence".











         Fruits Medicinal uses
  • Yellow berry which looks like tiny tomato, it is an winter food for birds and Small mammals.
  • In the tribes of Nilgiris, the plant is used to treat "Finger abscess", the finger is inserted into ripe fruits for few minutes.
  • The plant root is  used as to treat  Cough, Asthma and Chest pain.
  • It is also used in Ayurvedic Industries.
